KIRKUS REVIEW

Terry's introduction makes the important distinction between seeing and looking (the latter with greater understanding) at ballet which has now become the ""Liveliest Art."" His handbook, no more than extended program notes, will take you through the ""Backgrounds, Listings, Credits and Descriptions"" of over 500 ballets--ranging from just ""Listings and Credits"" to several-page descriptions, scene by scene. The most notable performers are also included with a few words on their interpretation.
