KIRKUS REVIEW

There will be those who may ponder the applicability of the title when applied to ""La Donna e Mobile,"" ""A Policeman's Lot is Not a Happy One,"" or the hymn, ""Now the Day is Over."" At least half of the over three hundred song lyrics, however, were constituted to prime the adrenals toward conflict or at least to a large view: ""Yankee Doodle,"" ""Die Gedanken Sind Frei,"" ""We Shall Overcome,"" etc. The least taxing course for a reader bothered by cavalier overlapping of categories is random sampling. The brief introductions may or may not be gospel but do scrape up a modicum of historical context. Barricades or shower sing-along, for those who know the music.
