Warden Lawes has the gift for making thoroughly entertaining reading anything he chooses to write about the famous prison of which he is now the arbiter. This book tells the history of one cell, from 1826 to 1911 -- a cell formerly used for solitary confinement, and uncovered in investigations under Lawes' jurisdiction. The facts of the lives of the four occupants, what brought them to Sing Sing, what happened to them afterwards, have been dug out of the records, and members of their families have contributed further details. Good reading -- and interesting sidelights on old prison methods. Publishers have prepared a very striking poster which should bring sales.
