KIRKUS REVIEW

Warren Armstrong, author of Mutiny Afloat, looks nostalgically back on the days of the great sailing ships. He finds within the records of old voyages, the ships and men that made them, the ingredients of heroism, adventure, and conflict. In true accounts, the drama of the tall ships pivots about three essential battles--the struggle between man and man, between man and the sea, and between the old ships and their steam-driven successors. Well written and documented, here is a vast world, as wide as the sea lanes those ships travelled, as valorous as the men to whom service was more crucial than life, as treacherous as the storms and seas which menaced the proud passing of the tall ships.
