This runs up a good many words extenuating the emotional, ideological impasse of the war generation (""if we marry we may die"" kind of thing)- overcast with a certain misty mysticism. The story- such as it is- concerns Larry and Paula, as they spend a furlough together during which Larry takes a decisive stand against marriage while his chances of survival are unsure- and Paula is forced to accept this. Their brief time together is interrupted by their joint investigation of a hidden transmitting station where a fanatic, directing an indictment of the radio in the abuses of and dangers to modern civilization creates considerable controversy. Larry and Paula find the mountain stronghold- return unharmed- but with Paula more reconciled than before to the uncertainty ahead. None of it makes much sense- much of it is sentimental. Book writes easily enough, but hasn't enough to say.
