The White Box were never a magical colorful team like the Yankees or the Giants, but they had their high moments as when the ""hitless wonders"" defeated the Chicago Cubs in the 1906 World Series, and when a truly great 1919 team threw and the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. This is chiefly the story of Charlie Comiskey and his untiring efforts to build a team, of his constant interference with managers who came and went with the seasons, of his great players and of the political machinations that seem to be a part of baseball as a business as well as a sport. Brown ends with the surprising drive of the 1951 team which augurs well for the future.
