KIRKUS REVIEW

After the opener when a girl's body is turned up inside a waterbed, it's hard to retain the same degree of instant interest and Mr. Downing won't help you out a great deal. This has a certain local (Colorado) twang and an unrememberable story dealing with oil, a fraudulent assay report and adultery. Old-timer Nathan Tree officiates and he's better than Barnaby Jones and that glass of milk at bedtime. But not by much.
