WHERE TO GO FOR HELP

Here is a handbook which is worth its weight in gold for anyone who needs help of almost any sort, and who, seeking alone, might well go up one blind alley after another. Dr. Oates, Professor of Pastoral Care, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, has brought together in the compass of one volume a precise and sympathetic description of the kinds of problems people face, emotional, mental, legal, sexual, aging, adoption, etc. and points to the resources that are available in the community or elsewhere; he lists the local and national agencies that are dedicated to helping people in one or more of these categories, the best books and pamphlets that are available,- all this plus a tender wisdom that should go far to reassure the troubled through a better understanding and acceptance of their problem, and the nature of the help they may expect and find. There are also suggested some safeguards against quacks, pulp literature, and well-meaning but unskilled persons. This book should be widely recommended to all who need help, as well as to those who seek to serve them, pastors and professionals of all kinds. It is all set in a Christian framework which in itself should do much to dispel the fear and suspicion which beset so many who find themselves in deep waters.
