In 1951 the two volume ""encyclopedic edition"" of Webster's New World Dictionary appeared under the World imprint. Now comes the one volume College Edition, claiming the largest word stock of any college dictionary- over 140,000 words, every definition freshly written, every word fully defined. Many of the word entries include both synonyms and antonyms, as well as etymological data, pronunciation, and- where necessary- a phrase showing usage. Foreign phrases, proper names, abbreviations, come in alphabetical listing, not in separate appendices.
