A ISN’T FOR FOX

Knorr’s big, smiling menagerie supercharges an ABC that offers examples both right and silly for every letter. Each verse follows the same pattern—“A isn’t for box; it isn’t for fox. / A is for ants that crawl over your socks”—printed in lines that curve through scenes featuring spread-filling, accurately depicted caricatures of familiar animals in active, often comical poses. Despite a bobble at “O,” in which an Octopus is knitting eight socks with but four pairs of needles, the examples are clear and clever, along with being presented in unforced rhyme just right for a rambunctious read-aloud.
