GOD IS NO MORE

By

Pub Date: March 2nd, 1964

First published in England in 1962, this book has been called by a Scotch theologian ""absolutely seminal."" God is no more, the authors say, because He has become an idea, confined within creedal systems. Deliverance comes through hearing the words of Jesus speak with their own authenticity. The authors believe that this authenticity can be sensed by a ""poetic conviction, and intuition""; and that what Jesus says disturbs by its incredible promise, its impracticable demands, and its unreasonable hopes. After introductory chapters on ""Clarifications"" and ""Justification,"" five chapters present the Promise of the words of Jesus in relation to today. A concluding chapter deals with Forgiveness. The tone of the writing is sober but pungent and carries a weight of personal conviction. This is likely to supersede ""Honest To God"" as a center of religious discussion and excitement among a wide range of readers.
