The Alaskan resettlement project forms the background for this new novel by the author of F.O.R Detroit. Once again he shows a social awareness, an ability to photographs the small details that make his men and women human beings. But this novel has no flavor of left wing labor elements. Implicit in the other. Rather is it a realistic picture of a cooperative venture, shorn of the sentimental flavor that characterised Barrett Willoughby's story in Alaska Holiday.) The plot revolves around a Michigan farmer and his family, the wife who refused to make the adaptation, the husband who found new life shaping itself under his hands as abilities, long dormant, were given a chance. Good reading, without being actually a good novel.
