A restatement of American principles, in somewhat the manner of Hayes' American Primer and other books along this line. Russell is Dean of Teachers' College, Columbia University. He has patterned his book on Paine's Common Sense. He deals fundamentally with democracy and what it represents; he analyzes its antithesis, fascism or tyranny. He draws on the original preceptors of the democratic way, past and present. Though well done, it lacks any particular spark of originality, and will almost inevitably be tagged as ""another book on democracy"".
