A Kansas journalist takes the bit in his teeth and fearlessly exposes the tricksters of his own state. Harry Elmer Barnes, in his introduction, endorses the book as an expose of alleged economic exploitation, political chicanery, financial graft and moral hypocrisy. A muckraking job, which does not hesitate to blame William Allen White for failing to use the opportunity that was his, ex-governor Allen, Woodring, Capper, Landon and the Finneys. It's the array of facts behind the fiction in Bill White's What People Said. He sees the Puritanical trends in Kansas as a national danger -- the prohibition technique turned in upon itself, and he paints the people of Kansas as puppets in the hands of expert puppet masters. Sure of a local sale, and there's enough near-scandal to get national attention.
