THE LITERATURE OF THE ENGLISH BIBLE

There will be a dozen uses for this book for clergy, teachers, students, readers, for church and school, library and study, but no one will appreciate Mr. Sypherd's effort more than the man or woman who sits down with it and his bible and using this as professor and guide lets it open up the bible to him. Remember in this country the bible is curiously slighted both in church and school so a person considered well up on his English literature may be almost ignorant of his bible. Here is his chance to catch up on the greatest work in the English language. Religion doesn't enter, in because one is not religious is no excuse. A knowledge of the bible, its characters, content, general plan, translators and various versions along with its history and literature are essential marks of an educated person today. Sell it as a key to a treasure house of culture and along with it suggest a bible; show the new ones with good bold type, show the various versions and be sure the staff reads this book so they can sell it intelligently. It is an extremely valuable piece of work for which there has long been a need.
