Combined here with the usual basics about dinosaurs and fossils is a one-by-one review of the plants (chiefly horsetails, cycads and gingkos) that existed during the age of reptiles and how they have changed or died out since then. The author has hit upon a subject well suited to illustrate the concepts of adaptation, evolution, and the interrelatedness of life forms, but her desultory presentation lacks the sharpness and direction needed to get across either the idea as a whole or the pertinence of each example.
