THE WAY TO VOCABULARY POWER AND CULTURE

Too bad a good book on the power of words didn't find a better title than the awkward one chosen. For I think it may prejudice people against what is an excellent vocabulary builder. Each section has its own test -- and one finds it almost beyond powers of resistance not to stop and test as one goes. Verbs-nouns-adjectives-adverbs with more than routine values -- how to find and use them; synonyms, antonyms, metaphors; workaday words and words of value in business, politics and world affairs, in religion and ethics; words that enrich thought and speech and writing -- often illustrated through their use by known masters of speech, Churchill, Roosevelt, and others. It's not a dictionary -- but really a self-teacher on the power of words.
