In his second Rocky McKune story (see The Man on the Bench) Wilfred McCormick carves another slice of the life of a high school coach and deals him a peck of problems to solve. Still fairly new at Koules, Rocky is thrown for a big loss at the start of the football season when an accusation is made against one of his players from a rival team. The accusation is found to be false, but there is more to it than that. Rocky must drill it into his boys that retaliation by vengeance is damaging not only to themselves but to the schedule of games they must win as well.
