THE MAN OF THE BENCH by Wilfred McCormick

KIRKUS REVIEW Rocky McCune returned as history and science teacher and baseball coach to Koulee High, his old aima mater five years after his graduation. The Rock gets a big reception, too; the boys are all for him and know he'll pull Koulee from the dumps that have kept them from beating Charles City lo these many. Confident as he is, Rocky nevertheless has trouble lighting in to all the oldsters around him- school board etc.- to make them sit up, take notice and not be so pokey about things. He succeeds, but the scrappy highspeed handling of characters makes them a little incredible and creates a questionable set of values all the way around.
