CATS

A comprehensive study of cats packed with information and spectacular illustrations, by the author of starlings and many other nature books. This is a departure from the smooth, simplified nature books usually published -- the format is crowded -- overflowing with muscular, glassy-eyed cats and toothy, horror-struck mice, some making fresh remarks in cartoon balloons. There is no doubt that the author's tendency to explain by pointing adds up to a confusing format. But, the pictures are alive, compelling and the reader shares the author's fascination with his subject. The physical characteristics, habits, behavior, with hints on care and feeding, as well as comparison with other wild cats are fully treated. A glimpse of a tomcat's day (and busy night) is spellbinding.
