THEY SURVIVED

Pub Date: Jan. 14th, 1962
Publisher: Dutton

An absorbingly interesting choice of almost unbelievable stories of survival, each confronting man with circumstances which would seem to defy human endurance. Noyce has written of a miner imprisoned in a wrecked mine; of a Foreign Legionnaire exposed on a raft; of extremes of calamity on desert and mountain; of the degradation of a concentration camp. Noyce's approach differs from Hersey's -- (Here to Stay -- p. 1104, J-318). He does a probing analysis of the factors that contribute to the conquest of self, the disciplines, the hidden skills, the inner resources, the will to live. A book to challenge one's concept of humanity and, for the reflective young person, an illuminating study.
