BROWNIE AND THE CIRCUS: And Other Stories of Today

This expert anthologist has once more made good selection --this time of more or less modern stories. I've qualified this, simply because many of the stories seem undated, and even the foreign ones are pre-war -- so they might be defined as stories of ""only yesterday"". Another limitation is that they are stories primarily of rural or small town backgrounds, -- whether in Sweden or England or China or America; whether mountain or seashore or Indian or Negro in background. One could wish for just one story of modern city children to balance an otherwise excellent collection. The Vera Neville pictures are, as always, charming.
