An excellent selection of animal stories for very young readers, chosen for the sure touch of the stories themselves -- half folk-tales, half might-be-true, and for the vocabulary which beginning readers can master. The illustrations by Vera Neville are enchanting -- and beautifully reproduced; eight or nine in gay colors, and a generous number in black and white. Many of the stories are familiar, but there's a fair share of new or at least unhackneyed ones.
