Hibernating creatures and their habits is the subject of this attractive nature book. After giving a concise explanation of hibernation in general, will Barker discusses the life cycle of animals, birds, and reptiles, placing particular emphasis on their activities immediately leading up to and after hibernation, and describing the various ways in which animals undergo their prolonged sleep. Told in a simple style, the author's obvious sensitivity to nature is reflected in his selection of detail and in the sympathy with which he approaches his subjects. Though geared, primarily, for the twelve to fifteen year old reader, there is much here to interest those both in younger and older categories.
