DEATH OF A LEGEND

A backward look at that triumvirate, Bud, Buck and Dingus, who grew up to be Cole Younger, Frank James, and Jesse James, and who first as guerrilla raiders, then as proscribed outlaws, terrorized the countryside, eluded the persistent pursuit of the Pinkertons, and finally met their long delayed and deserved retribution. From the records, this retraces Jesse's marriage to the unswerving Zerelda, his cousin, his first and only woman; the many years of impudent crime- and wanton killing; the thinning loyalties of his men- and Cole's desertion; and finally Jesse's death-- and all this is a fictional resurrection of the man, a lot of man- bold, bitter, bad, but there's an enduring heroism as well. Good.
