THE BOY AND THE FOREST

The author and illustrator of the 1952 Caldecott Medal winner have constructed a strange poetic story of a quiet boy who loved the forest and its creatures. The life-filled wood is gradually consumed by choking vines afer some little people take over and capture the animals. With the help of an enchanted snake, the boy rescues his forest and reinstates the kidnapped animals. The artist has combined startling colors in the technically fine woodcuts, many of which are distinctive and powerful, reflecting the other-worldly atmosphere of the story.
