SUMMER YESTERDAYS IN MAINE

There is a very pleasant quality to Dean Sperry's book of boyhood memories, from 1885 on, recalled with nostalgia, gentle humor, and unobtrusive wisdom. This is the country and the way of life -- he loves best, clambakes and bathing, boats- and his particular enthusiasm -- dories, fishing for cunner and cod, berrying, Sunday services, the salty natives. There is a good deal of information about boating and fishing, based on his own personal experiences. There is also through an appreciation of Maine, and of life in the old days at the shore. Similar market to Rufus Jones' A SMALL TOWN BOY, for local and mellow appeal.
