WHAT AMERICA THINKS

Publisher: Crowell

Almost a year ago eldn Mnfee did a book on what America was thinking called . This also is a survey of American thought based on public opinion polling. It is a less comprehensive book, a more encouraging one in that many of America's areas of ignorance, and prejudice, receive only brief consideration. It is not as absorbing a documentary study, but it is a good overlook of the main issues of the day on which the public, as a whole, reveals itself to be realistic, fair minded and aware. Labor Unions (and the resentment against militant tactics rather than unionism per se); foreign policy, and the turn from neutrality to intervention between 1939 and 1941; peace, and how vindictive the terms; health, taxation; F.D.R.- who for and why; the poll tax; the doctoral college; etc. Suffers by comparison with the Menefee, but agrees with that book in its conclusions.
