WINGED WARFARE

Lieutenant Colonel Billy Bishop's autobiography has long been one of the classics of aviation literature, and this re-issue, embellished by an appendix containing sketches of and data on World War I aircraft, and enhanced by an introduction and notes by Stanley M. Ulanoff, should be welcome in the military and aviation-buff market. Primary emphasis in Bishop's narrative, naturally, is on his war experiences; he was the most famous, if not the first, of the ""aces,"" and is credited with seventy-two victories during his stint as the star pilot of Canada's Royal Flying Corps in 1914-1918. His colorful--not to say flamboyant--personality, and the flair with which he records his combat experiences have made of Bishop a legend, and will make of Winged Warfare some excellent reading for old fans who ""remember when"" as well as for younger readers with a taste for fairly exciting true adventure.
