KIRKUS REVIEW

The dozen mini-narratives here are not so much ""stories"" as riddles, jokes, and puzzles that sport with the visual images that are this experienced sculptor's forte. A weary snake whose curves just fit the backs of three turtles who give him a slow ride; a crenelated crocodile that becomes a ladder into a tree; a puppy keeping dry under his master's potbelly--each is a little flat verbally but comes to intriguing life in Accorsi's brightly decorative illustrations, where picture-puzzle areas of harmonious color mingle to create amusing scenes. In a playful last spread, all the characters are cleverly juxtaposed at a picnic. Innovative and fun; an interesting picture-book debut.
