From ""a youthful love of fishing"" to Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Miami Seaquarium, is not a surprising step, although naturally it is a rare one. Captain Gray's long career included everything from stocking a department store with fish for home fanciers to a stretch as a wholesale and retail fish merchant. At times he has acted as a guide and angling instructor for some of America's most rich and famous fishermen. For some 60 years he has grown to understand fish as well as almost anyone on land or sea. Whether he is describing the processes of supplying laboratory specimens or setting up a natural history display for the public, Captain Gray expresses himself in a charming way sympathetic to both fish and fishermen. This is a delightful book whether or not one has ever tried fishing for food or sport. The style is reminiscent of Snakes in Fact and Fiction, by Dr. James Oliver, a similar authority in his former position as Curator of Reptiles and Amphibians at New York's Bronx Zoo.
