EXPLORING FOR FUN

Youngsters satiated with armchair adventures are encouraged to do a little field work of their own in this simplified discourse on the art of survival in the great outdoors. Whether he plans a one week or one day expedition, the novice must carry most of the basic equipment outlined here. His clothing must be appropriate to the needs of his trip, he must understand how to make a fire with or without good kindling and how to build an adequate shelter. The term ""explorer"" is not synonomous with ""martyr"", therefore our young man (or woman) should know how to achieve maximum comfort under the sky, how to administer first aid and even how to prepare some tried and true explorer's dishes. An understanding of the compass and of map making round out the picture. Placing the horse after the cart to a certain extent, the last chapter deals with the purpose of the whole idea, ""what to explore for"", but we feel this graphic outline of tips, suggestions and rules is meant more appropriately for the better motivated adventurer.
