Dr. Johnstone is Dean of the Junior College and professor of Political Science at The George Washington University. The Far East has been his special problem, and he has studied it at first hand. In this volume, he does much the same thing that Robert Aura Smith does in Our Future in Asia, but his approach is more that of the scholar, his emphasis more on the legal aspects. As background for his conclusions and recommendations, he discusses all aspects of out rights, our commitments, our stake -- and the ways in which Japan has interferred. His conclusions are that a more thorough understanding and a stronger policy must be developed.
