THE LAZY GARDENER

A beguiling sort of gardening book, but misleading- if one really thinks it will chart the way to lazy gardening. What it comes down to is that an ardent gardener may find short cuts-here or elsewhere- but will use the time only to do something else, to make the garden bigger and better. This book has endless information packed into its chattiness, but it wont be an easy book to use. The emphasis is on preparation- later on mulching. There's a lot about what to grow and where. The focus is on gardening in the small plot at the northern Virginia geographical level. Every phase of small gardening is touched upon,- soil preparation, annuals, perennials, shrubs, wild gardening, and- sketchily- vines, trees, herbs. Excellent lists at the end. And- we trust- an adequate index.
