KIRKUS REVIEW

Gault keeps his eye on the ball on what is exclusively a story of a youngster's rise in the profession. Joe joins up after high school, and is pitching for the majors--the Chicago Bears--in a year and a half. Taught to be loose by his witty, wacky catcher-pal Dick Lotz, sustained by his ex-baseball Dad from Badger Junction, Wisconsin, Joe's a relaxed likable guy telling a simple story in a conversational way. Easy writing, easy reading, easy entertainment from a perennial pro.
