Though there is no organized attempt to analyze the theory, developments or conflicts which form the concept, the conclusion that unrestricted freedom is inseparable from the American spirit makes this a happy affirmation of our idealism- and with the examples it gives, it may prove its worth as a springboard for class discussions. Historically, it includes many famous cases from Roger Williams' day on and if some are the more notorious that have marked history, they seem worth remembering in a day when book burning is still dangerously imminent.
