This is a considerable two-way interest-getter, a strange homicide case and an even stranger demonstration of paranormal powers, as (very routinely) told by the Dayton Daily News reporter who worked on it for a long time back in 1968. Barbara Ann Butler, shopping in a discount store, disappeared and was found 25 hours later on the floor of her VW. She had been strangled but there were markings only on the sides of her neck; the key of her car was under her body; her arms were taped but while there were bloodstains here and there, she had not been raped. The police dropped out in time of what was a clueless case until the intervention of a clairvoyant, Dodd, who makes Jeane Dixon look like a slouch: he revealed that, for example, the prescription for her glasses was for her left eye only; gave a general indication of what had happened; and warned in front of two psychiatrists that a similar crime would take place, which it did, and that the victim would be wearing a sweatshirt, which she was. Rhine vouched for the clairvoyant's abilities -- and Dodd long-distanced certain difficulties J. B. Rhine was having. It's quite a story which will have you wondering about everything except its sincerity, and shaking your head in the disbelief you'll be suspending.
