EVERYMAN'S DICTIONARY OF PICTORIAL ART

By

Publisher: Dutton

Some 1200 artists have been selected for inclusion in this two volume reference guide which along with its brief (proportionately longer when dealing with more important artists and their works) entries also include over 700 illustrations in black and white and full color. The emphasis is on placement rather than interpretation, although there is some critical evaluation, and the dictionary also includes basic information on periods and schools, style and theory, art terms, art forms and media, galleries, etc. While the color necessarily suffers in small scale reproduction, this is a good basic set for immediate reference- as intended.
