FISHERMEN ON GEORGES BANK

Large, clear black and white photos follow the Ellen Marie on a fishing voyage out of New Bedford. While closeups show the crew at work lowering the nets and processing fish and the variety of the catch brought up from the ocean floor, the short and austerely direct captions refer to the crew members by name -- telling the fishermen's hours and wages, explaining the ""dragging"" mechanism (with the aid of charts) and identifying parts of the ship. The result is an effortlessly informative glimpse at an industry that combines the romance of the sea with modern technology.
