GIOTTO TENDED THE SHEEP

Beautifully told story of the boyhood of the Italian painter, who started as a shepherd boy in the hills, and who went with the master painter, Cimabue, to the workshops of Florence, there to outstrip his teacher. Background of artistic life of Florence and intimations of the contribution Giotto made in bringing a sense of realism to art. It is a romantic story, and the format of the book, with colored illustrations by Dorothy Bayley, makes it one of the outstanding gift books of the season.
