The attempted defection of Victor Dermuth, Member of Parliament and loud speaker for the lunatic left, proves extremely embarrassing for the Prime Minister, particularly since he has called for an election. His plans for keeping the affair quiet include getting rid of James Mott, M.P., owner of London's finest gambling casino and a loyal friend and supporter. Security head Charles Russell finds himself in a tricky position...detesting the P.M. but forced to back him...to a point. It's an intriguing power struggle written with Mr. Haggard's customary urbanity and caustic sophistication.
