THE GOLDEN JUNGLE by William Howard Harris

THE GOLDEN JUNGLE

By

Pub Date: Oct. 3rd, 1957
Publisher: Doubleday

The golden jungle is a Wall Street brokerage house, but the investment is in Ronald D. Cortleigh III rather than the firm he has inherited, so that his sexual activities rather than the concerns of the business (automation versus Morae, union problems, the annual bonus) are ticker taped here. Married- for the second time- to Orline who has not given him a child, he finds her in bed with a girl and learns that she is a part-time deviate. He has an affair with his secretary who walks out on him (although she is pregnant) when he offers her nothing permanent. He lives it up with two women until an imagined heart attack subdues him, sends him to look for Janet- too late.... The publishers make the expected Executive Su parallel, an ambitious one, since the only commodities traded here are pretty cheap.
