BENEATH HAWAIIAN SEAS

Unusually lively fare for boys is this Hawaiian adventure story set in the early nineteen hundreds -- a rumpus featuring shark fights, octopus hunts and all dear, familiar save-the-ranch techniques by which the boy heroes hogtie the bad guy at the finis. Fourteen-year-old Douglas Burgess from San Francisco, sent with his father's blessing to spend a summer with Dad's old friend Mahoe of the Islands and his son Miki, finds Hawaii much to his liking, with swimming in sparkling seas, fishing and feasting with the brave and friendly people. However clouds gather when Abbott McCobb, manager of a local ranch, puts pressure to bear on Mahoe to sell his precious land. Douglas and Miki discover an unwholesome plot and expose McCobb after a capture, escape and sea chase. The tone is contemporary and the style is brisk, bright and boyish. Tops for its type.
