Naps are for saps,"" says stubborn Herman, but the white-bearded Nap Master who comes in answer to his mother's ad just settles down to ""catch a few winks"" himself. After a bit of mischief while his mother and all the employees of his apartment building sleep too, Herman does fall asleep; and ""inside his dream"" the Nap Master takes him on a typical Kotzwinkle fantasy trip where the same doorman, janitor, etc., join him underwater and he gets a taste for naps and dreams. ""Enjoy yourself and don't be afraid [of dreams],"" is the Nap Master's message, but the way he whooshes Herman from one wonder to another doesn't give anyone a chance to get involved.
