AN ALBUM OF THE CIVIL WAR

Photographs, prints and handbills from Katz's own collection are accompanied by highly condensed, easy to read paragraphs treating the politics of the emancipation proclamation, the capabilities of Union generals and the sociology of slavery in surprising depth. Many of the photos are rare, and though comparable pictorial material is available elsewhere, this combination of a mature but brief text and contemporary illustrations should appeal to older, reluctant readers.
