SHIP TO SMORE

Publisher: Random House

This is off the bean for McFee, a story in the old cruise romance tradition, with more authentic interpretation of the ship and captain side of the story. Not a Spenlove tale, but a story of a captain whose life at se had cut him off from a not too profound attachment to a wife on shore, and who felt life was drifting; and of a New York business girl who had just cut loose from an affair, and was also drifting. Of how they came together -- and of how they built a future for themselves, a home in New York, where he felt more a husband than in the Liverpool suburb where his wife held away. There is no tongue in check naughtiness here, just an honest, straightforward situation, accepted and -- on the part of the wife -- condoned. Long, drawn out and old-fashioned.
