KIRKUS REVIEW

Drawing upon experience from his newspaper column about words, the author has compiled a lively guide for the layman about the refinement and expansion of vocabulary. Common errors and omissions are considered in terms of their propriety on the three vocabulary levels -- recognition, writing, and speaking. Explanations for words which are generally known but rarely used...and words rarely used but fun to know- are generously supplied. The reader can measure his progress by the word games and tests which appear throughout. Crossword puzzle fans should have a ball.
