A HISTORY OF AMERICAN GRAPHIC HUMOR: 1865-1938

By

Pub Date: Dec. 6th, 1938
Publisher: Macmillan

This was originally scheduled by the Whitney Museum as a companion volume to the History of Graphic Humor: 1747-1865 (published last Spring). Now, with The Macmillan Company taking over the Whitney Museum publications, this volume comes out under their imprint. They are all there, almost every artist of note to make any contribution to the passing show, political, social, economic commentaries in graphic form. A page out of American history. Not only are the names there, with enough to place them, but much of the history of humorous sheets, newspaper cartoons, comic supplements, periodicals which aimed at social evils through semi-humorous means, -- all are included, along with approximately 250 illustrations. Grand fun reading. A book that should make a perfect gift book.
