Sub-titled ""A Political Biography"", this covers Truman's official career from his first senatorial nomination in 1934 to his succession to the presidency. Introduced by the author, Truman's home state newspaper correspondent, as ""intensely personal partisan might be a more advised term since there is very little about the man. With only praise for Truman, his integrity, loyalty, this covers his nomination by the P machine, his role in the Senate, his devotion to the cause of the little people as against the financial overloads his support of the even though advocating all aspects of it, his stands on various bills, his Committee investigate the defense program, his nomination for the vice-presidency he didn't want... This by no means the critical coverage of Missouri Compromise (Little, Brown). Beyond establishing a favorable record for the man during his earlier political position as Senator, the material holds little of interest to the reader- or even campaigner.
