Now that the nervous little haywires of The Lonely Ones have seeped into the American consciousness as far as they can go, and have been immortalized on ashtrays and cocktail napkins, the time is indeed ripe for another excursion into neurotics by the New Yorker cartoonist, famed as the creator of psycho-analytical portraits and Small Fry. Here are seventy-six drawings of amatory states and strangulations — spell-binding, from the bottled misery who proclaims in the caption, "I'M NO GOOD-I'M UGLY" to the wistful inhabitant of a lady's slipper who suggests, "CAN'T I JUST STAY HERE TONIGHT?". Throughout, of course, our neurotic mentions "MAMA!" in various stages of frenzy, and the variety of states of mind limned here will provide more material for pin-pointing the eccentricities of one's friends and enemies. Although angled to a circumscribed cosmopolitan audience, the Lonely Ones market which is large and vocal may be depended upon for this one.
